The lottery began selling Powerball tickets in 1992, and Mega Millions in 2010. Lottery proceeds in Missouri are dedicated to public education, comprising four percent of the state’s education funding. Since it was launched, the Missouri Lottery has contributed more than $6.5 billions to public education in the state.
How long do I have to collect my winnings?
You have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim your winnings. Unclaimed prizes will go toward Missouri public education.
What happens if my winning ticket is lost, stolen, or damaged?
The Missouri Lottery isn’t responsible for damaged, stolen, or lost tickets. Keep them in a safe place. Signing your ticket helps prove you own it in case you lose it.
Can I remain anonymous if I win a lottery prize?
No. Your name, hometown, prize amount, the game you won, and where you bought your ticket will be made public. However, this will change on August 28 when by law, information about lottery winners will be publicized only if the winner provides written authorization.
Where do Missouri Lottery funds go?
In Missouri, lottery proceeds go toward public education, and the legislature determines their allocation each year.
Can I buy lottery tickets by mail, phone, or online?
No. You can only purchase your Missouri Lottery tickets from licensed lottery retailers in the state.
How old do I have to be to play the Missouri Lottery?
You must be 18 or older to purchase and redeem lottery tickets.

Are Missouri Lottery winnings taxable?
Yes. Lottery winnings in Missouri are subject to both state and federal taxes. Winners of prizes over $600 are also required to fill out W-9 tax forms.

Here’s the process for claiming Missouri Lottery prizes.
Please note that all Missouri Lottery Offices may stop accepting claims earlier than 4:30 p.m. in order to maintain safety and security rules and guidelines.
There are no sales of lottery products in any of the claim centers.

All jackpot prizes for Powerball and Mega Millions must be claimed at the Missouri Lottery Headquarters.
To claim a prize by mail, write your name, address, phone number, and signature on the back of the winning ticket and mail it to:
